Hi there!

The final ruling in the Dred Scott case in the U.S. Supreme Court was...

C. Under Missouri law, Dred Scott was still a slave, despite having lived in a Free State and a Free Territory.

Dred Scott v. Sanford was a landmark Supreme Court decision that resulted in major backlash by the North and increased tension over the issue of slavery. Dred Scott, a former slave, had been taken into a free state and territory and was declared free by his former owner. Upon reentering Missouri, he was redeclared a slave as Missouri was a slave state and had his rights taken away.

The answer is C. On March 6, 1857, the Supreme Court ruled against Dred Scott, a slave who sued for freedom after spending time in free territory. The decision, which declared that slaves were not citizens and that the Missouri Compromise was unconstitutional, outraged Northerners and contributed to the start of the Civil War.
