First find out how much 1/3 is of 246 by multiplying both:
1/3 * 246/1 = 82

Next, subtract 82 from 246:
246 - 82 = 164

164 people ride the bus

To check we need to add 82 and 164:
164 + 82 = 264

You're most welcome

To find 1/3 of 246 students, you would divide 246 by the denominator of 1/3 which is 3. 246 divided by 3 is 82. Another way to formatting this is 246 x 1/3 which is also 82.

This means 1/3 of 246 is 82 so 82 students ride to school in a car. If 1/3 is 82, 2/3 (the remaining amount of student) is 164 (82 + 82 = 164 , 1/3 + 1/3)

So 164 students (2/3 of the students) ride the bus to school.
