If X=y-7 you put that into the other problem: y-7=2-8y. Then you combine like terms: 9y=9. Get the unknown by itself: divide both sides by 9: y=1. Then you put what y= into the first problem: X=1-7 then X=-6.
So X=-6, Y=1. :) hope this helps!

x=y-7 and x=2-8y if there is a solution x=x so
y-7=2-8y add 7 to both sides
y=9-8y add 8y to both sides
9y=9 divide both sides by 9
y=1, and since x=y-7
x=1-7=-6
So the solution is the point (-6, 1)
