Answer:

The number of :

Red carnations sold = x = 687 carnations

Pink carnations sold = y = 342 carnations

How many of each carnation were

Explanation:

Let us represent

The number of :

Red carnations = x

Pink carnations = y

The Student Advisory Council here at PC sells red and pink carnations every year for Valentine's Day.

The number of red carnations sold was 3 more than 2 times the number of pink carnations sold.

x = 3 + 2y .....Equation 1

Red Carnations were sold for $ 0.50 each and Pink Carnations sold for $0.75 exh . The club made $600.00 .

$0.50 × x + 0.75 × y = $600

0.5x + 0.75y = 600...... Equation 2

Using substitution method:

Let us substitute, 3 + 2y for x in Equation 2

0.5(3 + 2y) + 0.75y = 600

1.5 + y + 0.75y = 600

y + 0.75y = 600 - 1.5

1.75y = 598.5

y = 598.5/ 1.75

y = 342 carnations.

Solving for x

x = 3 + 2y .....Equation 1

x = 3 + 2(342)

x = 3 + 684

x = 687 carnations

Therefore, The number of :

Red carnations = x = 687 carnations

Pink carnations = y = 342 carnations
