The greenhouse effect is a natural occurring thing on earth. It is like a blanket for our atmosphere; however, the CO2 releases on Earth are increasing it which leads to global warming. Hope this helped.

These are known as the greenhouse gases. Energy (light) from the sun passes through the Earth'satmosphere and is not absorbed by the greenhouse gases (due to its short wavelength). ... This plays an important role in keeping the Earth's surface warm and able to sustain life.
