The slope can be calculated as follows:


m=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)

The slope of Line 1 m:


m_1=(2-8)/(8-(-4))=(-6)/(8+4)=(-6)/(12)=-(1)/(2)

The slope of line 2 m:


m_2=(-2-6)/(8-(-8))=(-8)/(8+8)=-(8)/(16)=-(1)/(2)

The slopes are equal which means that the lines are parallel
