How can a nutritionist or dietitian help an athlete train for a major competition, race, or game?

Well a nutritionist tells you if you are eating the right parts of the foods but a dietitian will tell you if you are eating the right food just especially by the way you feel after you eat because your body starts feeling different.

They can help by increasing the athletes protein and calorie consumption if the goal is to gain muscle mass, or by reducing calories and increasing protein to lean out. Heavy carbohydrate meals before training can increase endurance of a training session, which allows the athlete to train harder or longer.
