So, what you want to do is to add these up. 3 3/8 + 1 5/8 is 5, a whole number. This is how: add 3/8 + 5/8 to get 8/8, or 1 whole. Then, simply add 3 and 1 to get 4. As you probably know, 4 + 1 = 5.

So, in this question you will add 3 3/8 and 1 5/8. So, first add 3 and 1 and you will get 4. Next, you will add 3 and 5 (this symbolizes 3/8 + 5/8) so you should get 8/8 which is equal to 1. So, 1 plus the 4 from the main number gives you 5. I believe the correct answer is 5.
