Two straight lines when intersecting will produce four angles that sum to 360. Any two consecutive angles will sum to 180. Any two opposing angles like in the diagram will be equal in measure because of the first two statements made above. So...

4x=88

x=22

Its a complementary angle. So what times 4 equals 88? Its fairly simple.
