The area of rectangle B is given as 24.

The length measures 8 units and this means the width would measure

\begin{gathered} A=l* w \\ 24=8* w \\ (24)/(8)=w \\ 3=w \\ \text{The width of rectangle B is 3} \end{gathered}

If the rectangles are similar, then that also means the length of rectangle B and the length of rectangle C are in the same proportion as their width.

The width of rectangle C is derived as shown;

\begin{gathered} (8)/(3)=(2)/(w) \\ \text{Cross multiply and you have} \\ w=(2*3)/(8) \\ w=(3)/(4) \\ \text{Therefore, the area of rectangle C is derived as;} \\ A=l* w \\ A=2*(3)/(4) \\ A=1.5 \end{gathered}
