remember you can do anything to an equation as long asyou do it to both sides
4x+2(x-3)=3x+x-12
distribute and expand
4x+2x-6=4x-12
6x-6=4x-12
minus 4x both sides
2x-6=-12
add 6 both sides
2x=-6
divide by 2
x=-3
A is the answer
