From the picture we see that angles y and x are vertical. Hence they have the same measure. Since we want to find the value of x, we should first find the value of y.

Now, to find y, we will use the following fact about triangles

"The sum of all angles of a triangle is 180°"

So, we will apply this fac to the triangle that cointains y.

If we do this, we get the following equation


53+45+y=180

by adding 53 and 45 we get the equation


y+98=180

now, we subtract 98 on both sides, so we get


y=180\text{ -98 = 82}

Then the measure of angle y is 82°.
