Describe the various important provisions in dowry prohibition act 1961

Dowry prohibition act made it forbidden for people to ask for dowry in exchange for marriage. The act established that those who asked for it could be fined and end up in jail. Anything not asked that was given was allowed and you wouldn't go to jail since it would be counted as a gift. Dowries were historically common throughout the world.
