This story is an example of dramatic irony because the two main characters train a dog to be a terrible guard dog, but offer it as an excellent guard dog.

Only the reader and the protagonists know about the training of the dog that remains secret to the rest of the characters, this being a great example of dramatic irony, which, as already mentioned, refers to information that is only known to one or a few characters.
