The Declaration of Independence relates to a "Dear John letter" because, like how a "Dear John letter" terminates the relationship between a woman and a man, the Declaration terminates the relationship between England and America.

Like the Dear John letter, it finally puts an end to its colonial relationship with Britain.
The declaration of independence powerfully expressed the right of the people to be free from its ties. It
showed the
need and urgency of an independent nation.
