there are total 52 cards in a pack of cards and 13 each i.e hearts,spades,clubs and diamonds
so P(diamond)=13/52
and P(spades)=13/52
so
probability that you draw a diamond or a spade is P(D)+P(S)=13/52+13/52=1/2
