If a figure is dilated by a scale factor less than one, does the shape get larger or smaller?

I think that it gets smaller. (not entirely sure)

If a figure is dilated by a scale factor less than one, the shape gets SMALLER.

But if the figure is dilated by a scale factor more than one, the shape gets bigger
