It is easier to read the slope and y-intercept from a linear equation if you rearrange the equation into slope-intercept form: y = mx + b What is the slope of the line
y = (8 - x)/(3)

The slope of the line is -1/3

Here, we want to get the slope of the line by comparing with the slope-intercept form

To get the slope, we will write the equation in the standard form

This can be obtained by splitting the fraction

We have this as;

\begin{gathered} y\text{ = }(8-x)/(3) \\ \\ y\text{ = }(-x+8)/(3) \\ y\text{ = -}(x)/(3)+\text{ }(8)/(3) \end{gathered}

As we can see, the coeffiecient of x is the slope

The coeffiient of x in this case is -1/3 which is the slope
