A shield volcano is chacterized by t=gentle upper slopes (about 5 degrees) with 30,000 feet about ocean floor and reaching almost 100 miles across at its base.

The shield volcano is characterized by gentle upper slopes which is about.. 5 degrees with somewhat a steeper lower slopes of about 10 degrees. Hope this helps!
