A) p + b = 24
B) .75 + .60b = 15
Multiplying equation A) by -.60
A) -.60p + -.60b = -14.4 Then adding this to B
B) .75 + .60b = 15
.15p = .60
plates = 4
bowls = 20

Answer: 4

Explanation:

Let x be the number of plates and y be the number of bowls.

then , According to the question, we have

x+y=24.................(1)\\\\0.75x+0.6y=15.......................(2)

From (1),
y=24-x

Substitute the value of y in (2), we get

0.75x+0.6(24-x)=15\\\\\Rightarrow0.75x+14.4-0.6x=15\\\\\Rightarrow\ 0.15x=15-14.4\\\\\Rightarrow\ 0.15x=0.6\\\\\Rightarrow\ x=4

Hence, the number of plates the lady bought = 4
