What was the staple crop of Ireland and from where did it originally come?

Originally, it was wheat and barley, until the arrival of the potato in the 16th century. The potato became the staple crop. This is why the potato famine affected the Irish so much, because of how much they relied on the potato. The potato originated in Peru. I hope this helps!
