I'm supposed to list items that I need to bring on a trip in Spanish. For example: Yo necesito los pantalones, la sudadera, etc... But am I supposed to put la or el before each item? I need to say: I need pants, a sweatshirt, and shoes. Just how would I say it so it makes sense?

It depends on how many and whether it is a male or female verb. If you are talking about one sweater than yes, you are supposed to put "la."

So you would say "Yo necesito los pantalones, la sudadera, y zapatos."

You would say los zapatos (the shoes) just shoes.
