The transfer of thermal energy by convection is a very important process in the temperature distribution on the surface of the Earth. The term sea breeze describes a thermally produced wind blowing from a ocean surface onto adjoining land.

Which statement explains this phenomenon?
A) Land has a higher specific heat than water. Therefore, the temperature of the water does not rise as much as the landmass.
B) Land has a higher specific heat than water. Therefore, the temperature of landmass does not rise as much as water.
C) Water has a higher specific heat than land. Therefore, the temperature of the water does not rise as much as a landmass.

D) Water has a higher specific heat than land. Therefore, the temperature of landmass does not rise as much as water.

A and B we can eliminate b/c hot water rises to the top of the ocean which then can be blown onto land. D we can eliminate b/c if water would get as hot as the land it would then evaporate. C) the land does not rise as much as water due to convection
