Feld’s confrontation with Sobel makes him to realize he wanted the wrong things for Miriam.

The passage from " the first seven years" by Bernard Malamud is an example of an epiphany since it is a moment of realization.

An epiphany may be defined as a moment when someone realizes something in an instant all of the sudden. In the passage it is told that "Feld had a sudden insight." The sudden insight markt the moment in which he realizes that Sobel had made it clear to Miriam that he loves her.
