because they tried to please the afterlife people (I dunno what they'd be called) by doing good things and avoid doing bad things in hopes of getting rewards and a peaceful afterlife. the pyramids were built souley for the afterlife and cities were based on a style that would appeal to the afterlife people. mumifaction made it easier for the person to enter the afterlife and the religious practices were to honor the afterlife people. good?
