The technique of classical conditioning that tries to the maladaptive behavior of a patient by inducing undesirable consequences or unpleasant stimulus of the behavior is Aversion Therapy. This technique conditions the patient that every time they show undesirable behavior, an undesirable consequence happens. As an example, to resist smoking, a patient can be given an electric shock each time they hold a cigarette. This conditions the mind to avoid cigarettes because the mind associates with the pain of being given an electric shock.
