Gene mutation most frequently occurs during the life of an organism opposed to development. Gene mutation directly inhibits or expresses a specific trait such as hair or eye color. While a chromosome mutation effects a set of genes, such as an extra 21st chromosome results in a set of traits that is quite common amongst all individuals with down's syndrome.
