For both equations we can simply just add y to both sides and then subtract the other number on the right side. Doing this gets us

-2x-6=y

-7x+4=y

We then set the two equations equal to each other and solve for y

-2x-6= -7x+4

add 7x and 6 to both sides and get

5x=10

x=2

Use this x value and plug it into any equation

-2(2)-y=6

Solve for y and get

-y=10

which means that

y= -10
