The sales tax = $48.50
Let x be the sales tax rate expressed as a percent.
So x% * 776 = 48.50
x/100 * 776 = 48.50
x * 776 = 4850 (multiply both sides by 100)
x = 4850/776
x= 6.25%
So the sales tax rate expressed as a percent is 6.25%.
