a(b+c)=ab+ac
the a is the (x³+x²+x)
so
(x-1)(x³+x²+x)=
(x³+x²+x)(x-1)=
(x³+x²+x)(x)+(x³+x²+x)(-1)=
(x⁴+x³+x²)+(-x³-x²-x)=
x⁴+x³+x²-x³-x²-x=
x⁴-x
