The quadratic formula is
x= \frac{-b± \sqrt{b^(2)-4ac } }{2a} so your equation is:
a=1
b=-5
c=-14

x= \frac{-(-5)± \sqrt{ (-5)^(2)-4(1)(-14) } }{2(1)}
All the problem asks for is the equation but if necessary you could solve it, just don't forget the plus or minus sign.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

for ax²+bx+c=0

x= (-b+/- √(b^2-4ac) )/(2a)

given
1m²-5m-14=0
a=1
b=-5
c=-14

x= (-(-5)+/- √((-5)^2-4(1)(-14)) )/(2(1))

x= \frac{5+/- √(25+56) }{}

x= (5+/- √(81) )/(2)

x= (5+/- 9 )/(2)

x= (5+ 9 )/(2) or
x= (5- 9 )/(2)

x= (14 )/(2) or
x= (-4)/(2)
x=7 or -2
