“My fellow Americans, our long national nightmare is over. Our Constitution works. Our great Republic is a government of laws and not of men. Here the people rule.” —Gerald Ford, 1974 What did President Gerald Ford mean when he said “our Constitution works”? How did the U.S. Constitution effectively resolve the crisis caused by President Nixon?

1."Our constitution works" , in other words : the laws are what govern the people not the people. Basically you follow the rules because they are the law, not because someone is making you.
2. Article II, Section 2. paragraph 1 of the US Constitution allows the President to grant pardons for crimes against the US Government, not involving impeachment. Incoming President Gerald R. Ford pardoned Richard Nixon on 8 August 1974, the day before Nixon's resignation on 9 August 1974.
