If you leave both faucets to fill for 1 minute the one that fills the barrel in 6 minutes will be left to fill 5/6 of the barrel and the one that fills it in 12 minutes will be left to fill 11/12 of the barrel.

Explanation:

One faucet fills a barrel in 6 minutes therefore in one minute the part of a barrel will be filled = 1/6

Similarly second faucet fills the barrel in 12 minutes and in one minute second faucet will fill the part of barrel = 1/12

Now both the faucets are turned on for one minute therefore total part of the barrel is filled = 1/6 + 1/12 = 3/12 = 1/4

Therefore part of barrel left to be filled = 1 - 1/4 = 3/4
