1) the Nile river had seasonal flooding that regularly enriching the soil allowing crops to flourish
2) it's a main water and point of travel source, so they could control who and what was coming in and out of the river.

The Nile river sustained livestock and crops by giving them water and soil.

The Nile river was advantageous for defense against attacks by creating a very hard to cross boundary.
