Let us consider the problem.

Seth has 16 pounds of meat. How many ounces of meat will he have?

On solving, we get,

Number of pounds of meat Seth have = 16

As, 1 pound = 16 ounces

Then, 16 pound = 16 × 16 = 256 ounces.

Thus, Seth will have 256 ounces of meat.

Since, 'pounds' are used for large amount of the object. To focus on the amount which is moderately small, we change form larger unit to small unit.
