\begin{gathered} a)x+x+x=3x \\ b)48y-40=8(6y-5)=8\cdot6y-8\cdot5 \end{gathered}

1) In this problem, we're looking for equivalent expressions. So we can write out the following:

a)x+x+x=3x

Note that if we add them up, or multiply by three we'll get the same.

2) Now, for part B. We need to find the GCD between 48 and 40

Note that in this way of finding GCD we stop whenever we can divide both numbers simultaneously.

3) Therefore, we can write out the following equivalent expression by dividing 48 and 40 by 8 and placing inside the parenthesis the terms:

\begin{gathered} b)48y-40=8(6y-5)=8\cdot6y-8\cdot5 \\ \end{gathered}

Note that there are two equivalent expressions

- For each expression, select all equivalent expressions from the list. (a) x+x+x-example-1
