It is 4 times the original area. You can use an example by saying the area is 5x3 is 15. Doubling this to 10x6 is 60, you see it is 4 times the original (60/15 is 4).
He could've found this answer by saying since it is double, t will be double the original.

Because each side of the rectangle is just doubbled and the question asked you to double it.
