Why were textiles and the iron and steel industry the largest in America by 1914?

These industries were most profitable. There were also many jobs available within these industries, so that made them much larger.

In 1914 the American economy expanded and became the largest supplier market for textiles and steel and iron. This was especially boosted by the First World War, when the US became the largest supplier of these manufactures to Europe. At that time the factories were rising, many countries were developing their transportation system, demanding a lot of iron and steel, in addition to the high demand for armament. The US was able to seize this moment and became the world's largest economy.
