5x−y=8 ; y = 5x - 8
7x+4y=22

substitute y = 5x - 8 into 7x+4y=22

7x+4y=22
7x+4(5x - 8) = 22
7x + 20x - 32 = 22
27x = 54
x = 2

y = 5x - 8
y = 5(2)- 8
y = 10 - 8
y = 2

answer: x = 2 y = 2 or (2,2)
