5280 yards at there are 5280 feet in a mile and three feet make a yard so 5280 yard would be 3 miles, you would use miles to measure the distance between two cities because a yard is too short

5280 yards is greater than 1 mile due to the fact that there is 1760 yards in a mile. To measure the distance between cities you would use miles because it is a longer distance.
