Train 1: (from Chicago to Milwaukee)

speed: 14 meters per second

Train 2: ( same time 100 miles away, from Milwaukee to Chicago)

speed : 22 meters/second

Both trains are traveling in opposite directions 100 miles away:

Distance = speed x time

D1 = 14 t

D2= 22t

Since the total distance between the cities is 100 miles:

14t+22t= 100

Solving for t:

36t=100

Since 1 mile = 1609 meters

100 miles= 100 miles x 1609=160,900 meters

36t= 160,900

t= 160,000/36

t= 4,469.45 seconds

Since 1 hour = 3600 sec

4,469.45/3600 = 1.24 hours

The two trains will pass each other on parallel tracks after 1.24 hours
