Suppose y varies directly with x. If y = 4 when x = 0.4, what is y when x is 5?

Explanation:

y = kx, where k is a real constant.

When x = 0.4, y = 4.

=> (4) = (0.4)k, k = 10.

Hence when x = 5,

y = kx = (10)(5) = 50.

The answer is 50.
