Add the proper constant to the binomial so that the resulting trinomial is a perfect square trinomial. Then factor the trinomial p^2+p+_

take 1/2 of linear coefient (1st degree)
that is p
p=1p
linear cofient is 1
1/2 of that is 1/2
square it to get 1/4

therefor the constant is 1/4

it factors to

(p+ (1)/(2))^2
