A speech at a political rally would be adressessed to commom people and would be oral. The politician would speak in front of large groups of people and his / her aim would be to convince the audience about his/ her policies, or about his / her proyects. The speech would be full of rhetorical language and the speaker might use these strategies: pathos , logo and / or ethos to persuade the audience. For example, if the speech were on teenager's leisure, the speech might be about the new discos that would be built with the tax payers' money and the focus might be on the fact that alcoholic drinks would be banned and replaced by fruit juice.
Contrary to the speech at a political rally, a written academic paper would be printed and would address schoolars or people from universities. The writer would try to convince the academic community through logical arguments suported by reliable evidence. The language would be formal and academic and not emotional. For example, if the paper were on teenager's leisure, the paper might have a claim: " Teenagers leisure is economically exploited by entertainment companies."
