Traditionally, mothers are considered to be nurturers and fathers to be providers. It is often believed that mothers are better caregivers than fathers. Do you agree? Why or why not? Do you think parental roles are defined by nature, or are these roles a reflection of the society we live in and the environment we are brought up in?

It has been scientifically proven that mothers are born with the instinct to mother a child. Nursing is in our blood. I don't necessarily think they're better than fathers at care giving and nurturing, because some fathers are really good at those things. But, it comes more naturally to us girls. I think parental roles are somewhat defined by nature, but mostly by actions. This definitely does affect the society and the environment we are brought up in.

I agree. I think parental roles are defined BOTH by nature and the environment we are brought up in. Men are generally more muscular than women, and therefore are providers, while women are naturally more gentle and caring, which is why they are nurturers. In ancient times, this was automatic. Today, things are changing, but parental roles are still clearly defined by nature.
