if you divide $296.00 by 20 hours then Earl makes $14.80 an hour and if you do the same for Melanie, 97.50 divided by 6 then she makes 16.25 an hour.
So, Melanie earns the higher rate of pay per hour.

You can do 97.5/6 to see how much Melanie earns in one hour
97.5/6=16.25 per hour
You can do 296/20 to see how much Earl earns in one hour
296/20=14.80 per hour
So Melanie has a higher pay rate per hour
