Variables:
p = uniform pants
c = baseball caps

Equations:

2p + 2c = 68

p - c = 12
****************************************************************************************
Step 1.

\left {{2p+2c=68} \atop {p-c=12}} \right

Step 2.

\left {{2p+2c=68} \atop {2(p-c=12)}} \right.

Step 3.

\left {{2p+2c=68} \atop {2p-2c=24}} \right.

Step 4.

4p = 92

Step 5.

(4p)/(4) = (92)/(4)

p=23

Step 6.

p-c=12

23 - c=12

23=12+c

11=c

Baseball Pants = $23
Baseball Caps = $11
