Answer: CLEAVAGE

Explanation: Cleavage is a property of the rock that shows how a rock breaks along a certain curved surface. Along this surface the bonding between the mineral is weak. Some of the rocks that exhibits this cleavage property are slate, limestone, shale as well as schist.

This property helps in determining the planes of weaker zones along which cleavage and fracture could possibly occur. There are two types of rock cleavage and they are as follows-

  • Slaty cleavage
  • Flow cleavage.
