A student conducted an experiment to test whether talking to plants would help them to grow faster. The student talked to one group of plants and hand watered them. The student did not talk to the other group of plants and used sprinklers. After three weeks, the plants that were spoken to showed much more growth than the plants that were not. Based on the results of this experiment, which is the best conclusion?

Talking to plants may or may not help plants grow faster because three weeks is not enough time to tell.
Talking to plants may or may not help plants grow faster because the amount of water given was likely different for each group.
Talking to plants does not help plants grow faster because the experiment did not involve enough groups of plants to determine this.
Talking to plants does help plants grow faster because those plants showed more growth.

Hi there!

In the experiment we can identify the variables to determine if the result of the experiment is sound.

Dependent variable - Growth of plants
Independent variable(s) - Medium of watering, being talked to and not talked to

In an experiment you want to have 1 independent variable to determine if that 1 variable is influencing the dependent variable. Because there are two independent variables in this experiment, it is impossible to tell which one caused the plants that were talked to to grow more. As a result, the correct answer would be...

B. Talking to plants may or may not help plants grow faster because the amount of water given was likely different for each group.

Answer: Talking to plants may or may not help plants grow faster because the amount of water given was likely different for each group.

Step-by-step explanation:

In the given situation, the growth of the plant is the dependent variable, which is affected by the talking and water which are the independent variables. The talking cannot be considered as the reliable variable for allowing the plant to grow but water is the basic necessity.

Not each group was given equal amounts of water thus talking to plants may or may not help in growth.
