Write out the sum formula for sin
sin(x + y) = sinxcos + sinycosx

Then expand sin(a + b) + sin(a - b)
sinacosb + sinbcosa + sinacosb - sinbcosa
The 2nd and 4th terms cancel and you get
2sinacosb
